DON'T GROW UP SO FAST

It was just yesterday when I held you in my arms

Hoisted you on my shoulders

Clasped you like a blanket.

It was just yesterday that we waited for you to speak.

Read out to you stories and tales.

Showed you the world and things as we knew it.

It was just yesterday when I got your cot

Your blanket and the gadda

And the protectors to cushion you.

It was just a few minutes back

That your bed was protected by pillows after the cot

We share a room and happily too

With the dreams of the bunk bed to be coming soon.

The cot you outgrew in a blink

With first steps and words, you crossed that barrier too!

My pointer of objects now talks faster than a shorthand expert

My shoulders now feel heavy as my heart still feels light

The hearer of stories today sits next to me

Reading herself silently.

As hours pass by.

My cuddly kid is a metre long

And clothes, by the minute, are getting short

Soon my shoulders won't be needed

And I'll start seeing world as you do

Understanding a brand new world

Then Ill miss this you, the you that was a mere handful then

As I hold your finger today

Will you have that patience with me too?

Don't grow up so fast

My hearts beats fast

I want to hold on

To each moment as a lifetime

Dont grow up so fast

Sighs my heart!
